Paws up to help domestic violence survivors and their pets secure safer futures!
Did you know…? According to the largest national survey on pets and domestic violence:
· 97% of survivors reported keeping their pet with them is a critical factor in deciding whether or not to seek shelter
· 50% of respondents went so far as to say they would not consider shelter at all if it meant leaving their pet behind
· Almost 50% reported they feared their abusive partner would harm or kill their pet
The results are clear – supporting survivors’ safety means supporting their furry loved ones too! That’s why we started the Purple Paws Caregiver Program last year. Check us out in The Gardner News!
In collaboration with other agencies our aim is to bridge this gap in safety support services for survivors residing in Gardner, Ashburnham, Hubbardston, and Westminster. Inspired by other successful pet fostering programs such as Berkshire Humane Society's PetSafe Program, we hope to expand the options for survivors seeking shelter or other exit strategies, but we need your help!!
Join us on Saturday April 27th, 2024, at the Pulaski Dog Park for a day filled with dogs, free goodies, live music, local vendors, raffles and more! Your FREE Paw Walk around the dog park to support this cause will help us to provide the necessary care to keep abused pets safe and healthy until they’re able to be reunited with their owners. If you’d like to donate, please consider becoming a sponsor!
See below to pre-register for the Vendors and donate a raffle basket valued at $25 or more. Pet groomers, veterinarians, pet sitters, pet stores & resources. Now is the time to show what you have to offer. Say it here.
